Dawn Over the Cordilleras: A Sunrise at Mines View Park
![]() |
The morning air in Baguio was crisp as I made my way to Mines View Park, eager to catch the sunrise. It was still dark when I arrived, the city quiet, with only a few early risers making their way to the viewpoint. The faint, cool breeze carried the scent of pine and freshly brewed coffee from nearby vendors.
As I reached the viewing deck, the sky was a deep shade of blue, slowly transitioning to lighter hues. In the distance, the Cordillera Mountains stretched endlessly, their peaks barely visible in the pre-dawn light. The city below was still asleep, wrapped in a soft mist that hovered over the valleys.
Then, just as the horizon began to glow, the sun crept up, casting a golden light over the landscape. The mist hanging in the valleys caught the light, creating a mystical scene. The pine-covered mountains were bathed in soft pinks and golds, and the colors of the sky shifted from deep purples to fiery oranges. The rooftops and trees below began to shimmer, as if waking up with the day.
The air felt more alive, colder, but somehow more vibrant with the warmth of the sun beginning to touch everything in sight. For a few moments, it was pure magic—a perfect, peaceful sunrise over Mines View Park, with the city of Baguio slowly stirring to life beneath me.
As the sun rose higher, the park started to fill with more visitors, their excited chatter signaling the beginning of a new day. I took one last look at the now fully illuminated mountains and knew that Baguio had gifted me a moment of serene beauty that would stay with me long after I left.
